The Yankees have already hurt one of their pre-trade deadline picks.
Austin Slater, who departed Monday’s game against the Rangers in the first inning due to stiffness in his left hamstring, would be that player. At Globe Life Field, Slater sustained the injury while sprinting to first on a fielder’s choice. After the Rangers continually bungled what should have been a double play ball, he easily reached first base despite having problems going down the line.
Aaron Boone and the Yankees’ training staff then paid Slater a visit. He left without much conversation.

On July 30, Slater, who was making his second start for the Yankees, was acquired from the White Sox. He was playing on Monday night because the Yankees were playing Rangers southpaw Patrick Corbin, and he is a right-handed hitting outfielder.
The Yankees acquired Slater because he had a.825 OPS versus lefties going into Monday’s game.
The Yankees will have an easier time choosing their roster if Slater must be placed on the disabled list because Aaron Judge is anticipated to return off the IL on Tuesday. When the Yankees captain returns, he will be initially restricted to DH duties due to a right flexor strain.
Before going back to right field, it is hoped that Judge will start a throwing program in the coming days.
On Monday evening, Judge arrived in Texas. Over the weekend, he was subjected to live pitching at the Yankees facilities in Tampa.
