A few pinstripers recognized Boston’s superiority over the Bombers this season shortly after the Yankees’ 1-0 loss to the Red Sox on Friday night.
According to Ben Rice, it has been difficult. So far, they have our number.
To be honest, I have no response to that. When asked why the Sox have been so hard on his squad, Jasson Dom nguezad.
The Yankees humiliated themselves in a 12-1 loss to the Red Sox on Saturday, demonstrating their persistent inability to find answers. This season, the Yanks are now 1-8 versus their longest adversary and 4-15 overall against the Red Sox and the Blue Jays, who are now in first place.
With Aaron Boone’s third-place team vying for second place in the American League East and Wild Card standings against division rivals, those are terrible records.
Rice stated on Friday that there is a great deal of frustration. Our division [rivals] are them. We must therefore improve. We need to figure out how to win our division games.
The Red Sox dominated Will Warren, who tallied seven hits, five earned runs, three walks, three strikeouts, and 69 pitches in just four innings, to start Saturday’s carnage.
Trevor Story hit Warren with a two-run double in the third inning to give Boston the lead. In the fourth, with the wind blowing in center field, Trent Grisham misplayed a leadoff ground-rule double from Ceddanne Rafaela, causing more difficulties for the righty. Roman Anthony and Alex Bregman’s sac flies, which put the Red Sox ahead 4-0, came after the play, which had a 90% catch probability.
The fiery slugger has hit 16 home runs in his last 37 games after Giancarlo Stanton hit a single homer against Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet in the fourth. Warren’s afternoon was cut short, though, as Story responded with a bases-empty homer of his own to start the fifth.
Conversely, Crochet breezed through seven innings. The lefty recorded 11 strikeouts against an offense that didn’t show much life in the first two games of this series, and the only error he made was the Stanton home run.
Before the Red Sox added a few more runs off Paul Blackburn in the ninth, Crochet, a Cy Young candidate, recorded 103 pitches, five hits, and one walk. As Bostonians yelled “Let’s go, Red Sox” in the Bronx, Yankees supporters rushed for the doors as Jarren Duran, Nathaniel Lowe, and Rafaela all recorded RBI singles.
After the struggling Anthony Volpe airmailed a throw to first and let another run score, the Yankees fans who stayed were treated to some really ugly baseball. He tied Elly De La Cruz for the major league lead with his 17th mistake of the season.
Blackburn then gave up a two-run homer to Carlos Narv oz after balking a run in. A dismal loss suddenly became a complete farce.
The Yankees will attempt to prevent a four-game sweep on Sunday Night Baseball, as they have previously dropped another series against the Red Sox, losing 5 out of 6 games in two sets in June.
The Red Sox will start Dustin May. Since joining his new squad at the trade deadline, the former Dodger has been reliable, recording a 2.87 ERA in 15.2 innings pitched.
Carlos Rodn will attempt to fill the role of stopper for the Yankees in the interim. Despite allowing eight earned runs in 10 innings versus Boston this season, the All-Star has a 2.50 ERA over his last three outings.
