After two American Carnival Cruise guests perished in separate situations at the line’s recently opened private resort, Celebration Key, within three hours of each other, Bahamas police are looking into the matter.

According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, a 79-year-old man passed on Friday at noon, and a 74-year-old lady died at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The individual went unconscious while snorkeling on a beach, according to the first report, police said in a statement. He was pulled from the water by a lifeguard, and CPR was tried without success. Consequently, a medical professional declared the man, who is reportedly an American national, dead.

Officers replied to a second call about the woman a few hours later. According to the police, the woman reportedly lost consciousness while swimming in a pool. Attempts to save lives failed, just as in the first instance.

By late Sunday, neither drowning victim’s identity had been made public.

Carnival said in a statement to media outlets on Sunday that its lifeguards and medical staff responded to two distinct emergency events at Celebration Key on Friday, one at the beach and one in the lagoon. Unfortunately, both visitors are no longer with us.

Less than a month ago, Celebration Key, a private resort on the south side of Grand Bahama Island that is only accessible to Carnival guests, opened with great excitement. On July 19, the first passengers arrived. The resort has a beach club, a water park, a number of lagoons, kid-friendly activities, and a number of dining options.

Carnival claims that each of the fatalities happened at the beach and in a lagoon while the victims were on different ships with their families.

According to a statement from the cruise line, one passenger was sailing with family on the Carnival Elation, and another was sailing with family on the Mardi Gras. Our Care Team is helping, and our thoughts and prayers are with the guests and their families.

On Thursday, the Elation began a four-night trip from Jacksonville, and on August 9, the Mardi Gras set sail for a seven-night cruise from Port Canaveral, according to WTLV-TV.

According to officials, both victims will undergo autopsies to help identify the precise cause of death. In both cases, the investigation is still ongoing.
