President Donald Trump threatened to fire Mayor Muriel Bowser (D.C.) if she didn’t change her behavior.
After ordering a federal takeover of Washington, D.C. earlier this month, Trump intensified his attacks on Bowser in the days that followed. Despite having no proof, he has accused her on multiple occasions of manipulating the capital’s crime statistics.
At a news conference Friday afternoon, Trump threatened to overthrow Bowser and seize control of Washington, D.C.
These people keep saying that everything was safe before we arrived, and I’m sick of hearing it. It was dangerous. It was awful. As Trump stated on Friday, “We’ll take it over with the federal government and run it like it’s supposed to be run, so Mayor Bowser better get her act straight or she won’t be there very long.”
The figures were appalling. They do have a lot of rats, and there was a crime-infested rat hole. Additionally, we are getting rid of them. He added, “And we’ve made a lot of progress.”

Additionally, Trump attacked Bowser, who rarely criticizes the president, in a Friday 2 a.m. Truth Social post.
Once again, Washington, D.C. is safe! The mood is rising, the crowds are returning, and our D.C. Police and National Guard are doing admirably. They are not playing games; they are out in force! For the first time in history, there were no murders this week, as horrible as that sounds, Trump stated.
If Mayor Muriel Bowser continues to provide wildly erroneous crime statistics, there will be dire consequences, including a full-scale federal takeover of the city! He continued, “Washington, D.C., will soon be great again.”
Citing the city’s high crime rate, Trump declared earlier this month that federal law enforcement will take over Washington, D.C. Reports that revealed the crime rate had fallen to a 30-year low in the past year, however, instantly called into question his assertion.
According to the White House, since Trump started directing federal officials into the area on August 7, 630 people have been arrested, including 251 illegal immigrants. Since then, Trump has increased the ante, taking over the D.C. police force on August 11 and bringing in more National Guard members, primarily from states with Republican governors.
On Thursday, Trump hinted that the Washington operations would be prolonged and used as a template for similar ones across the nation.
“We’re going to stay here for a while, but we’re going to make it safe before moving on to other places,” he stated.
