The most recent University of Massachusetts Amherst poll showed a decline in President Donald Trump’s approval rating.
According to the UMass Amherst poll, which was made public on Monday, Trump’s support rating has decreased by six percentage points since it was last taken in April. Only 38% of respondents agreed with Trump’s management of his presidency, while 58% disagreed, according to the recent poll.
44% of respondents approved of Trump, while 58% disapproved, according to the April poll. When asked about Trump’s performance on issues like immigration, inflation, jobs, civil rights, tariffs, and natural disasters, the survey also revealed that he is in a bind.
In a statement released along with the survey results, Tatishe Nteta, the poll’s director and provost professor of political science at UMass Amherst, pointed out that Trump’s support ratings are already historically low.
According to Nteta, Donald Trump appears to be losing favor with the American people six months into his second term as president. Nearly 6 out of 10 Americans (58%) say they are not happy with Trump’s performance in office, further depressing his already record low approval ratings for a freshly elected president.
Nteta added that 84% of Republicans approved of Trump’s job performance, indicating that the president is still popular with them. This is a little less than the percentage of Republicans who expressed approval of his job handling in April, when 89% of them stated so.
Even though Trump is still well-liked by conservatives and Republicans, his tenure in office is seen more unfavorably by people of all races, genders, generations, and socioeconomic backgrounds, with the majority of each group disapproving of his performance. According to Nteta, the president is not off to the start he and his supporters had in mind, but he still has more than three years remaining in the Trump administration to turn things around and keep the promises that propelled him to the presidency.

Nteta added that there are concerns about Trump’s future, pointing out that some of his supporters would not support him again if given the chance.
The share of Trump supporters who say they are very confident in their choice has decreased by 5 percentage points since April. According to a statement from Nteta, we also see slight rises in the proportion of Trump supporters who express conflicting opinions about their vote and say they would prefer not to have cast a ballot.
Lastly, 14% of Trump supporters said they would not vote for Trump again if they had the option, compared to 8% of Harris supporters. Time will tell whether the growing number of disaffected Trump voters are the canaries in the coal mine, indicating a larger problem among the Trump coalition and the MAGA movement more generally, Nteta continued.
1,000 people participated in the survey, which was conducted from July 25 to 30. Its error margin is 3.5 percentage points, plus or minus.
