Toddler, 2, struck and killed by car at Belmont Lake State Park

According to investigators, a carat struck and killed a 2-year-old Sunday afternoon in a state park on Long Island.

According to a press release from New York State Police, the unnamed toddler was hit by a 2016 Acura in a parking lot at Belmont Lake State Park in North Babylon at approximately 2:45 p.m.

After being transported by first responders to Good Samaritan Hospital on West Islip, the toddler was declared dead, according to Newsday.

About 30 miles east of Central Park, the Acura driver contacted 911 right away and cooperated with investigators at the site, according to state police. Officers concluded that the collision was a terrible accident and that no criminal charges will be brought. The driver’s identity was kept secret.

There were other fatal car crashes on Long Island on Sunday besides the car-child incident in Belmont Lake State Park.

According to an alert from Nassau County police, a 55-year-old man was died in a two-car collision involving a Nissan Altima and a Nissan Maxima in East Meadow, some ten miles west.

Investigators found that a 57-year-old lady was the driver of the Altima, carrying a 56-year-old woman and a 55-year-old guy. The car struck a 40-year-old woman’s Maxima near the junction of Salisbury Park Dr. and Carman Ave.

The other three victims are likely to recover from minor injuries sustained in the collision, while the 55-year-old male was slain. None of the victims were publicly identified by police.
