The victim in last week’s Monmouth County fatal shooting
has been identified by homicide investigators as an 18-year-old Middlesex County man.
Chrystofer Whyte of North Brunswick was identified Sunday as the victim from the June 12 shooting at Pier Village in Long Branch according to a spokesperson from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
Police in Long Branch responded at 8:58 p.m. to the beach area between the shoreline and the boardwalk of Pier Village for a report of shots fired,
according to a statement
issued by Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago on Friday afternoon.
Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male victim, suffering from a single gunshot wound, he said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office – Major Crimes Bureau and the Long Branch Police Department is currently ongoing.
Law enforcement officials believe this to be an isolated incident and that there is no further threat to the public.
Investigators are asking anyone
who may have been at the scene to come forward if they have firsthand video footage of the incident on their phones or electronic devices.
Investigators said they are aware of videos already on social media and said they are not seeking links to videos posted by others.
