Earlier this week, New Jersey State Police troopers safely rescued a stray cat with an injured eye on a Newark highway.
According to a Facebook post from the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, the cat was trapped on the Route 280 median with no way out as cars rushed by.
Shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday, troopers arrived at milepost 13 and found the injured black cat on the highway’s left shoulder, according to State Police.
After being taken to Paterson Animal Control, the cat was taken to the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge for emergency medical attention, where he was given the name Conan.
“Our cattery welcomed Conan with open arms,” the shelter posted on Facebook. Amazingly, he managed to get away with just a nasty cut above his eye.
The shelter claims that because Conan is not microchipped, it is impossible to identify him.
How he got stuck on the roadway is unknown.
A shelter donor has promised to double every dollar donated to the shelter’s medical fund for vulnerable cats and kittens, up to $5,000, according to the Facebook post.
According to the shelter, Conan is sweet, timid, and incredibly appreciative of the generosity that saved him.
