Tampa, Florida – A dangerous mix of extreme heat and powerful thunderstorms is expected to impact the Tampa Bay area on Thursday, July 24, bringing renewed weather alerts as the region moves through the height of summer.
The National Weather Service warns of heavy downpours and possible flooding, especially after 2 p.m., with rain chances reaching 90%. Isolated thunderstorms could produce between a quarter- to half-inch of rainfall, particularly affecting low-lying areas and highways such as I-275. Wind gusts from the south at 7 to 9 mph will contribute to rising humidity, pushing heat indices near 100°F.
Evening conditions will offer little relief. Showers may linger before midnight as breezy southwest winds persist and overnight lows only dip into the upper 70s.
Friday saw more showers and thunderstorms, with daytime highs reaching 94°F. Heat index values will again approach the triple digits, prompting health officials to advise limited outdoor exposure, proper hydration, and checking on elderly neighbors, children, and pets.
Saturday could have been the hottest day of the week, with mostly sunny skies and highs near 96°F. Though isolated afternoon storms may develop inland, a brief sea breeze could provide minor relief along the coast.
By Sunday, scattered thunderstorms return, keeping weather conditions unsettled as temperatures remain in the mid-90s. Monday continues the trend, with likely thunderstorms and highs around 95°F.
Residents should stay weather-aware, follow local alerts, and take precautions during peak heat hours throughout the weekend.
