At a Pittsburgh community event on Sunday, an empty automobile veered out of its parking space and crashed into vendors and staff, injuring six people.

At the yearly East Liberty Black Arts Soul-Steppin, Boots-on-the-Ground Wellness Festival, Harambee Style, and Parade, the car broke loose just before 6:30 p.m.Witnesses informed WPXI-TV that the owner had gone outside to unload.

Witnesses told police that the unattended, slow-moving car slid into the gathering, but they said there wasn’t much time to respond.

Ricco J.L. Martello, an event photographer, told WTAE-TV that he had just raised his camera to snap a picture when he noticed the automobile coming down. He then dropped his camera and tried to alert his subjects. However, he stated that it was already too late. They were already being struck.

According to a statement from Pittsburgh police, three of the five women and one guy who were admitted to the hospital were in serious but stable condition, while the other two were in stable condition. After being assessed on the spot, one individual declined medical transport.

Anita Drummond, the founder of the festival, claimed that some of the wounded were her family members.

According to witnesses, the owner made a heroic effort to apprehend the errant car.

Martello remarked, “I see him running from the sidewalk to try to stop the car.” He felt awful, honestly.

According to Anita Drummond’s son Eddie Drummond, who spoke to WTAE, both police and witnesses agreed it was a bizarre collision. The gears most likely didn’t shift or whatever.

According to police, the automobile owner remained at the scene, was quite helpful, and told them he thought he had put his car in park before leaving. The occurrence is currently thought to have been entirely accidental.
