Severe thunderstorms leave thousands of N.J. residents, businesses in the dark

According to the most recent utility data, severe thunderstorms that raced through New Jersey on Tuesday caused widespread power disruptions for thousands of homes and businesses around the state.

During the storms’ height, tens of thousands of outages were recorded. To restore power, utility workers labored through the night.

As of 7 a.m., these are the remaining power outages broken down by utility:

JCP&L: 380 disruptions

PSEG: 819 outages

87 outages were reported by Atlantic City Electric.

One outage occurred at Rockland Electric.

According to the Mount Holly forecast from the National Weather Service, there is a high chance of severe weather today, with thunderstorms developing in the late afternoon.

With the possibility for significant rainfall of two to three inches in a one to three hour period, the southern part of the state is under a flood watch.

Cumberland, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Somerset, Salem, Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, and Cumberland are all on flood warning.
