A man with a long history of public indecency arrests was taken into custody once again Thursday morning in Indianapolis, just two days after being released from jail on unrelated charges.
Cameron Greenwood, 27, of Gary, was arrested around 9:45 a.m. on July 25 for public indecency with a prior conviction, which is classified as a Level 6 felony under Indiana law. According to a police report, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded to the 5100 block of E. 16th Street after receiving a report of indecent exposure.
Upon arrival, officers found Greenwood exposing himself to a woman. He was immediately identified and arrested at the scene.
Extensive Arrest History
Online court records and police reports show that Greenwood has a lengthy criminal record, including:
- At least 47 arrests since 2019, on charges including criminal trespassing, battery, and public indecency
- Nine arrests related specifically to nudity, indecent exposure, or public lewdness
- A tendency to reach plea deals or have charges dropped, often avoiding prison time
IMPD Lt. Shane Foley previously commented on Greenwood’s repeated offenses, stating:
“He’s got quite the history. Our officers are responding to runs and doing what they can to make arrests.”
Recent Incidents of Public Nudity
Greenwood’s prior arrest for public indecency occurred on May 23, 2024, when Jamesha Bell, a local mother of six, reported seeing Greenwood expose himself in front of her and her children outside their home near New York and Dequincy Street.
“We were outside hanging out, just enjoying the beautiful day,” Bell told FOX59/CBS4. “Didn’t think we’d see a penis.”
Bell said she chased Greenwood on foot after witnessing the incident. Charging documents later revealed Greenwood had allegedly exposed himself at least four other times on the same day.
No Supervision Despite Convictions
Just two days before his latest arrest, Greenwood pled guilty to felony criminal trespassing in a case filed in February. Despite having multiple prior convictions, he served no prison time and was released without court supervision.
Greenwood’s repeated arrests have raised concerns about how the justice system is handling serial offenders, particularly those with a history of public sexual misconduct.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office has not yet commented on whether additional or enhanced penalties will be sought in light of Greenwood’s ongoing pattern of behavior.
