After receiving a yellow card during Borussia Dortmund’s victory over Monterrey, Jobe Bellingham was suspended for the Club World Cup quarterfinals. This means he will not be able to play his brother Jude and Real Madrid in the following round.
Midfielder Jobe will miss one game due to his second yellow card in the competition when Dortmund meets Madrid at MetLife Stadium on Saturday. He was previously booked during the group stage victory over Ulsan HD.
The Bellingham family would have been proud of the match between Dortmund and Madrid, which would have demonstrated the brothers’ quick ascent after both were nurtured in Birmingham’s academy.
At the age of 17, Jude Bellingham moved from Birmingham to Dortmund in 2020. Since then, he has become one of the best players in the world, landing a move to Madrid three years later for a possible $139 million sum.
He is an important player for England and has already won the Spanish league and the Champions League with Real Madrid.
In 2023, Jobe relocated to Sunderland from Birmingham. He signed with Dortmund last month, following in his brother’s footsteps after helping the squad get promoted to the Premier League the previous season.
After making his debut at the Club World Cup and then scoring his first goal for his new team against Mamelodi Sundowns, Jobe has already made an impression at Dortmund.
Dortmund defeated Monterrey 2-1, while Madrid defeated Juventus 1-0 to reach the quarterfinals.
