Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic mayoral hopeful, was declared the greatest candidate in the campaign on Friday by Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, who is powerful in some regions.

Richards urged fellow Democrats to support Mamdani’s plan for the city during his speech, stating that while working people in all five boroughs are still struggling, this is not the time to be indifferent.

Richards, a Democratic socialist, remarked, “Count me in as a Democratic socialist.” He also added that Mamdani’s populist proposals were compassionate rather than just socialist.

Mamdani thanked Richards for the endorsement and praised him for demonstrating for so long what it means to stand up for working people in this borough and the city.

Richards’ support is a huge help to Mamdani’s campaign, which has had trouble connecting with more conservative Democrats in Queens’ most important districts where the beep is heard. He supported Mayor Adams in 2021 but did not endorse him in the Democratic mayoral race.

Richards stated during the event on Richmond Hill that this is not about socialism. Establishment is not the issue. a concerns working people and making sure they can live and prosper in a more unreachable metropolis.

In the main election in November, Mamdani is anticipated to run against Andrew Cuomo, Adams, Republican Curtis Sliwa, and independent Jim Walden.

The final stop of Mamdani’s week-long anti-Trump tour was on Friday in five different boroughs. Officials from all points of the Democratic spectrum expressed their support for the candidate during the week of campaign appearances.
