Denis Stoff, the former lead singer, has joined the chorus of people who are unhappy with Ask Alexandria’s live-streamed performance at the resurrected Vans Warped Tourstop in Washington, DC, on June 15.
Danny Worsnop, the founding and current vocalist of the British rock band, has been the target of the band’s ire. Worsnop frequently sang along to backing tracks for a large portion of the concert, which led some audience members to accuse him of being indifferent. It got so terrible that the following day, bassist Sam Bettley apologized vaguely on his Instagram account.
Stoff, who led the group from 2015 to 2016 following Worshop’s departure, shared his impressions on the show on Instagram on Sunday. This comes after a number of fans had voiced their wish for Stoff to return to the group. Before Worsnop returned to the band in October 2016, Asking Alexandria had only released one album with Stoff as the lead, 2016’s The Black.
Stoff wrote, “I’ve watched the videos, I laughed my t–s off, and I loved it.” This is how they have always sounded live since the start of their career, as hundreds of people have said in the comments. Years ago, when Danny said that I was performing to his backing tracks, I was laughing uncontrollably and completely untruely.
Stoff made a few accusations in the post as well. According to the vocalist, he never received royalties for the one CD he recorded for Asking Alexandria, and he has unsuccessfully written numerous emails seeking confirmation.
As per the terms of the contracts I signed with them at the time, Stoff wrote, “Unfortunately, I would never return to a band that has still NEVER presented a single royalty statement for The Black’ album and has failed to pay out an estimated $5,000,000 of my profit share.” Authorship of songs, sales, streams, deals, show tickets, performance guarantees, and global product sales are all included in this.
