After reportedly shooting at a parked automobile in Philadelphia several times, a 17-year-old was charged last week. Police also said that a second suspect had been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

Because he is a juvenile, the authorities did not identify the teen. He is awaiting a hearing before a Warren County Family Court judge after being taken into custody on an arrest warrant on Tuesday.

No injuries were recorded. Area security footage, according to authorities, linked the teen to the incident, which is still being investigated.

He was accused of weapons charges, aggravated assault, and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault. Fourth-degree criminal mischief was another charge against him.

The allegations against the teenager were made public by the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office on Friday night. On Saturday, Phillipsburg police posted on their Facebook page that a second suspect had been taken into custody in relation to the shooting. Later this week, additional information is anticipated from the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.

In a Facebook video and the post, Phillipsburg Police Chief Anthony Goodell said the message is still obvious. The Warren County Prosecutor’s Office, the New Jersey State Police, the Phillipsburg Police Department, the mayor and council, and our community will not put up with this violence and will keep using all of the tools at their disposal to apprehend violent offenders.

Gunshot detection technology alerted Phillipsburg police to gunfire in the 100 block of Henderson Street just after 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

Several discharged bullet cartridges were discovered by investigators along Henderson and Wilson streets. According to authorities, a car parked close also had bullet holes in it.

The gunshot on Tuesday is the most recent in a string of shootings that have occurred in Phillipsburg in recent weeks.

Whether any of the instances are related or not is unknown at this time.

In the early hours of August 3, Andrew Robert Weaver, 20, of Phillipsburg’s first block of Rose Street, was accused with knocking on a homeowner’s door and then firing bullets. Authorities reported that as the homeowner arrived to answer the door, one of the bullets passed through a window.

Similar charges have been brought against Matthew R. Dawe, 32, of the 100 block of Lewis Street, after police claim he fired rounds at a neighbor’s house on July 30.

At least five other gun violence incidents have been reported to the town’s police in recent months.

Evidence of a shooting at Mercer and River streets just before two in the morning was discovered by investigators on June 30. Alfatir T. Kelly, 26, of Phillipsburg, and Dorien E. Roberts, 18, of Port Murray, were subsequently charged in relation to the shootings.

On June 2, a man was discovered shot dead outside a house on Summit Avenue in Phillipsburg. According to officials, the victim, Kevin Clervil of East Orange, was shot many times before passing away from his wounds at a nearby hospital.

Police found evidence of two additional shooting occurrences in the 100 block of Memorial Parkway and Broad Street on May 15.

A day later, Hadiyah Peggins, 26, was stabbed to death at a residence in the 400 block of Anderson Street. Jamari E. Dortch, 28, of Maryland, is accused with first-degree homicide in relation to Peggins’ passing.

The Phillipsburg Police Department and Warren County Prosecutor’s Office are looking for witnesses to the most recent shooting. Phillipsburg police are asking anyone with information to call 908-835-2002.
