At 5:05 p.m. on Monday, the National Weather Service issued a warning for Hudson, Essex, and Union counties to experience heavy thunderstorms through 5:45 p.m.

Pea-sized hail (0.25 inches) and wind gusts of up to 40 mph are features of the storms.

Doppler radar detected a line of powerful thunderstorms at 5:03 p.m. that stretched from close to Bridgewater to close to Plainfield to Edison. The weather service reports that the movement was northeast at 25 mph. Strong winds have the potential to blow around unprotected objects and topple tree limbs. Outdoor items may sustain minor hail damage.
