In the days following UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s murder in Midtown Manhattan, an upstate New York man made four threats against the family, according to officials on Wednesday.
According to a news release from the Justice Department, Shane Daley, 40, of Galway, was charged with cyberstalking for the offensive calls.
The feds claim that Daley called Thompson’s family for the first time in the hours following the murder. According to detectives, he subsequently made one additional call on each of the next three days.
Daley allegedly informed an unidentified Thompson family member during one of those calls, “Your [relative] got lit the f k up because he’s a f king asshole.” making money off the backs of low-income Americans. You f king pricks will continue to experience this. According to the Albany Times-Union, “F k you.”
In the immediate aftermath of a loved one’s murder, Daley harassed and intimidated a distraught family, according to a news statement from interim Manhattan District Attorney Jay Clayton. These egotistical, destructive, and heartless acts compromise public safety and will not be accepted.
Daley was freed on a number of terms after his arraignment on Wednesday, including wearing a GPS monitor, getting treatment for substance abuse, and avoiding contact with the Thompson family going forward.
On the morning of December 4, 2024, Thompson, 50, was shot and killed while traveling to a conference at the Residences Hilton Club on W. 54th St. close to Sixth Ave.
In relation to the attack, Luigi Mangione, 27, the accused killer, is charged with both federal and state murder.
Instead of eliciting sympathy, Thompson’s murder caused the public to become furious with the healthcare system. According to police, Mangione’s hatred for American insurance firms was the driving force for the murder; after apprehending him, they discovered a scribbled manifesto.
The document stated, in part, that these parasites just had it coming.
