A man from Camden County was convicted of killing a 23-year-old music producer in a Lindenwold recording studio in 2022.

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said on Wednesday that Ronin A. Nevels, 25, of Lindenwold, was found guilty last week of first-degree murder, second-degree weapons charges, and fourth-degree criminal trespass in connection with the death of Isaiah Shaw of Winslow Township.

Shaw was shot in the head when police arrived at IAO Studios in the 2500 block of Egg Harbor Road on September 30, 2022, according to the police. At the scene, he was declared dead.

Court filings state that a witness inside the studio reported to detectives that they observed Nevels pointing a weapon at Shaw before he was shot and fell to the ground.

According to court filings, Nevels allegedly added, “I had to do it several times,” as he left the building.

After an investigation, Nevels barricaded himself inside a house in Gloucester Township that was not his, surrendered, and was taken into custody on October 1, 2022, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Shaw was a gifted and accomplished young guy who passed away far too soon, according to a statement the music studio made on its Facebook page in 2022.

According to his obituary, Shaw founded a record label called Colossal Records and produced music under the moniker DJ Zay.

In his capacity as a producer, Shaw composed music for emerging New Jersey musicians and composed music for films directed by budding filmmakers in Philadelphia. According to the obituary, he also started a clothing business to support his neighborhood and market his label.

After a four-week jury trial in Camden County Superior Court, Nevels was found guilty last Thursday, according to the authorities. On September 11, he will be sentenced.
