Motorcycle driver killed in crash in N.J. city, authorities say

According to information from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, a motorcyclist was killed in a collision in Newark on Saturday night.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Leandro Cardoso Da Costa, 40, of Elizabeth, passed away at approximately 5:15 p.m. after his motorcycle struck a car at the intersection of Thomas Street and Dawson Street.

The motorcycle was heading west on Thomas Street at what looked to be a higher pace near the intersection when it struck the automobile, which was heading north on Dawson Street, according to video footage, investigators said.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the motorcyclist struck the car’s bumper and lost control of the vehicle.

Da Costa was declared deceased at Newark’s University Hospital.

Authorities reported that neither the driver nor his passenger were hurt. Following the collision, the driver stayed on the site.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the inquiry is still ongoing.
