LEONARD GREENE: Trump’s police takeover bid won’t fly in NYC

President Trump shouldn’t even consider attempting that takeover fiasco here because this is New York, and we won’t tolerate it. Perhaps they can execute that stunt in Washington, D.C., where there is neither statehood nor congressional representation.

A federal government takeover would be unacceptable to even New Yorkers who dislike the NYPD or who irrationally wish to cut off funding for the police force.

Hawk Newsome, the head of the Greater New York chapter of Black Lives Matter, stated that the legislation will unite New York in resistance.

According to Newsome, he can now see it: In a huge circle encircling 1 Police Plaza, Blacks, Whites, Christians, Jews, Muslims, Liberals, Conservatives, Socialists, Democrats, and Republicans hold hands and challenge Trump’s forces to breach that line even once.

Recognize that Newsome, who frequently criticizes the police department, loves the NYPD as much as Yankees fans love Fenway Park.

However, Newsome claims he will fight to the death to protect the cops if Trump’s pen even approaches issuing an executive order that would place New York’s finest under his authority.

“I am aware of my antagonistic relationship with the NYPD,” Newsome stated. However, people will stand united in the event of an attempted takeover of New York, as it is akin to an act of war. Not in this city.

Despite municipal authorities’ claims that crime is already declining, Trump called for a clamp-down on crime in the nation’s capital, and this week, federal agents spread out throughout Washington, D.C.

The president can assume authority of D.C. because it is a congressionally formed federal district, but he is only allowed to do so for 30 days by statute unless Congress gives his consent.

The delusional tyrant has set his sights on other big cities, including the one he once called home, in spite of those restrictions.

Trump mobilized National Guard troops at the White House on Monday and declared, “I’m going to look at New York in a little while.”

The city he is observing is incorrect.

Trump’s troops are not welcome here, according to Mayor Adams, who has a more lenient stance toward him than the majority of New York City Democrats.

Adams stated that we don’t need someone to take over our police enforcement system. Our police force is the best in the world.

Naturally, Adams, a former captain in the NYPD, has some bias.

Even so, he is aware of the harm that would result from even a single day of Trump’s administration.

The others are also aware.

You see how awful Chicago is. Trump remarked, “Look at Los Angeles, how awful it is.” Some of our other cities are terrible. There is a crisis in New York. Then there’s Oakland and Baltimore, of course. They’re so far gone that we don’t even bring it up anymore. This will continue, and we won’t lose our cities over it.

If Trump is not open and honest, he is nothing.

and reliable.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott told CNN, “I think it’s very notable that every single city that the president has singled out has a Black mayor, and the majority of those cities are experiencing historic lows in violent crime.”Rather than hurling things at us, the president may take a lesson from us.

Muriel Bowser, the mayor of D.C., is Black as well.

Each time you claim that the president has fallen to a new low, he falls even below.

He wasn’t satisfied with embarrassing the city’s Black mayor, Karen Bass, by deploying the National Guard in Los Angeles. He must lead troops in a fight against an enemy, and at the moment, that adversary is the populace of Democratic cities, who disliked him and his immigration policy.

Some people no longer believe it has anything to do with politics.

It has to do with right and wrong. According to Newsome, some things are simply incorrect. We don’t agree on many things. Regarding who will be the best mayor, we cannot agree. However, we will not tolerate a dictatorship. No dictators are allowed here.
