Here is a sneak peek provided by the Associated Press:

Missouri’s St. Joseph (AP) Throughout the summer, Maxx Crosby kept running into famous players, such as NBA great Kevin Garnett and former NFL wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. Their immediate bond led the Raiders standout pass rusher consider another athlete he sees occasionally.

Patrick Mahomes, quarterback, Chiefs.

The explanation was straightforward: Crosby declared him to be the best contestant.

Crosby explained, “I’ve had the honor of meeting some of the greatest players, greatest people, and greatest dudes across all different types of walk of life.” As he put it, “I don’t even have to say nothing when you meet somebody else that’s an ultimate competitor and that’s all you’re about.” You simply click immediately.

Despite their differences, Crosby and Mahomes, two of the AFC West’s most bitter opponents, have a good deal of respect for one another. In his 12 career games, Crosby has sacked Mahomes six times, but the Chiefs have won eight of the previous nine.

Mahomes has thrown 33 touchdown passes and only five interceptions in his 12-2 record versus the Raiders overall.

I therefore have the utmost respect for Pat. Crosby remarked, “I’ve said it a million times.” I consider myself to be the best competitor. I consider myself to be the greatest person alive. He believes he is the best in the world, and I know that. I have also said it. He therefore brings out the best in me. I am certain that I bring out the best in him. I’m eagerly anticipating those wars.

Although his father is a safe place to start, Mahomes is unsure of the true source of his competitive attitude. During his 11 years in the major leagues, Pat Mahomes Sr. was able to spend a lot of time with his son in the clubhouse.

It’s what motivates Mahomes throughout the offseason as he endures yet another grueling session with his personal trainer, Bobby Stroupe. The intense ones at training camp and the cold ones toward the end of the season are what motivate him to practice. On gameday, when other quarterbacks might give up, it’s what enables him to endure the agony of bumps and bruises.

It’s what has enabled Mahomes to consistently inspire his squad, guiding them to three titles and five Super Bowls.

According to Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, “that drive to win is at the highest level of probably any player in the NFL.” In my opinion, when you have that, it affects not just us as coaches but also the players on the squad who play defense, offense, and special teams. Make sure you are taking all the necessary steps.

According to Nagy, a lot of NFL games are close, and the will to win may sometimes make the difference.

“You know he’s going to give you a great chance when you have him on your side,” Nagy added. We all hold ourselves to a very high standard, and when we lost the Super Bowl (in February), he was prepared to leave the very next day.

Mahomes freely acknowledges that the Philadelphia defense played a significant role in the team’s 40–22 loss to the Eagles in New Orleans, which was one of his worst games ever. He was sacked six times and threw two interceptions.

Nevertheless, Mahomes’s totals from his first eight seasons are astounding. He turns 30 next month.

With an average of 288.9 yards per game, Mahomes is the best quarterback of all time, while his career passer rating of 102.1 is second only to Aaron Rodgers. Most significantly, though, Mahomes has guided the Chiefs to seven of their nine straight AFC West championships and has advanced to the conference championship game each of those seven seasons.

“I believe you must always improve,” Mahomes remarked. When you’re successful, people tend to forget about it. Although we obviously lost that last game, we enjoyed a great season the year before. Additionally, I believe that there are moments when people wish to remain stationary and simply repeat the same actions. However, you can see that everyone is improving in the NFL, the AFC West, and the rest of the AFC. Therefore, we must improve.

It sounds as though the speaker’s competitive fire is burning hotter than ever.

Mahomes stated, “We need to maintain the urgency in practice, competing, and going at it.” Although you want to be better together, you also want to be competitive. Although we’ve always done it, this year we want to strive to do it even better.
