Julian McMahon, star of ‘Charmed,’ ‘Nip/Tuck,’ and ‘FBI,’ dies at 56

Kelly McMahon, McMahon’s wife, confirmed to Deadline on Friday that her husband passed away in Clearwater, Florida, on Wednesday.

She told the source, “I wish to share with the world, with an open heart, that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, passed away peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer.” In order to give our family privacy as they grieve, we kindly request your support during this time. And we hope that everyone Julian made happy will continue to find happiness in life.

McMahon, who was born in Sydney, Australia, on July 27, 1968, started out as a model before transitioning into acting. Before moving to Hollywood for another daytime job on NBC’s Another World, he swiftly rose to fame on the Australian soap opera Home and Away.

His big break as half-demon Cole Turner on the wildly famous supernatural series Charmed came after he made the switch to primetime television in the mid-1990s, first landing a series regular role on the NBC crime drama Profiler.

He landed his first major role on American television in 2003, playing the lovable and seductive Dr. Christian Troy in Ryan Murphy’s Nip/Tuck.He was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Series for the plastic surgery drama, which aired on FX for six seasons and 100 episodes.

He most recently made an appearance on Dick Wolf’s FBI before being chosen to star in its most current spinoff. Before departing the show in 2022 at the conclusion of season three, he headed a squad assigned to find the nation’s most infamous criminals as Special Agent Jess LaCroix on FBI: Most Wanted.

Although McMahon was best known as a TV personality, his portrayal of Dr. Victor von Doom in the 2005 film Fantastic Four and its 2007 follow-up Rise of the Silver Surfer made him a favorite among superhero moviegoers.

In addition, he starred in the Sandra Bullock thriller Premonition, the acclaimed assassin movie Red, and the Nicolas Cage film The Surfer.

McMahon is survived by his 25-year-old daughter Madison, whom he shared with his ex-wife Brooke Burns, in addition to his wife of over a decade.
