The New York Liberty defeated the Dallas Wings 85-76 on Tuesday night thanks to 15 points and 10 rebounds from Jonquel Jones.
In her first Liberty home game since rejoining the WNBA, Emma Meesseman scored 13 points, while Leonie Fiebich scored 14. After the win, chants of “Emma!” erupted at Barclay’s Center.
After earning the EuroLeague Women’s MVP award the previous three seasons, Meesseman, a past finals MVP who last participated in the competition in 2022, scored 11 points in Sunday’s 87-78 victory over Connecticut.
In the Wings’ first game after Dijonai Carrington was dealt to the Lynx, Paige Bueckers scored 21 points, pulled down eight rebounds, and dished out four assists. Due to a back problem, she exited the game halfway through the third quarter and walked to the locker room. She played in the last period after coming back to the bench at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
After missing two months due to a knee injury, Dallas forward Maddy Siegrist scored 13 points in her debut. Ogunbowale Arike scored 14.
The Wings (8-21) defeated the Liberty 92-82 last week; Tuesday night’s contest was only a faint memory.
New York (18-10) took the lead right away and maintained it for the whole of the match.
In the last minutes of the first half, Bueckers made two free throws to equalize the score at 34. Stephanie Talbot then made a 3-pointer to give New York a lead that they would never relinquish.
While Sabrina Ionescu was comparatively quiet, scoring nine points—three in the first half and six in the second—Talbot reached double digits with thirteen points.
The Liberty increased their lead to double digits as the fourth quarter came to a conclusion after the Wings remained tight for the first three quarters.
