Derrick Nnadi is going back to a place he knows after not making an impression with the Jets.
Nnadi was dealt by the Jets to the Chiefs, according to sources who spoke to Daily News. Additionally, the two teams will exchange conditional 2027 draft selections in the sixth and seventh rounds.
The trade was initially reported by ESPN.
The Chiefs drafted 29-year-old Nnadi in the third round out of Florida State in 2018, and he played his first seven seasons with them. Nnadi earned three Super Bowl championships during that period.
Nnadi, however, inked a one-year, $1.4 million deal with the Jets in March, despite all of his accomplishments in Kansas City. In place of Quinnen Williams, Nnadi was meant to offer a seasoned presence on the defensive line, but that never materialized.
Nnadi had a calm summer and was scheduled to be freed on Tuesday at 4 p.m., prior to final cuts. The Jets acquired Bowon Briggs from the Browns and Harrison Phillips from the Vikings last Wednesday, then traded for defensive tackle assistance.
Nnadi played 29 snaps while the majority of Jets veterans sat during Friday night’s preseason loss to the Eagles. Additionally, he played in the fourth quarter, indicating that his roster status was in jeopardy.
Throughout his career, Nnadi has participated in 115 games, making 87 starts. He has recorded seven tackles for loss, five sacks, and 233 tackles.
