Last weekend in Buffalo, Jaxson Dart gave the Giants’ offense a boost while they were traveling.
He will now have his first chance to energize his new home audience.
In the team’s second exhibition practice on their shared field, the Giants’ first-round pick will make his MetLife Stadium debut on Saturday night against the visiting Jets.
I’m eager, This week, the 22-year-old Dart smiled.
In his debut preseason game, Dart completed 12 of 19 passes for 154 yards and the touchdown in a 34–25 victory over the Bills. In addition, he quarterbacked three scoring drives and ran for 24 yards.
Even though his family attended that game, it was nothing compared to what will happen on Saturday in front of a devoted fan base that is ready to watch the Giants’ new franchise quarterback take his rightful place on the field.
According to Dart, the Zach Bryan performance was my first time inside a stadium. As I stood there, I could see the names of all the famous players in the stadium and tried to imagine the atmosphere and intensity of a sold-out stadium. I’m eager.
“It will be a lot of fun,” he continued. When the fans show up, I hope they’ll be fervent. I’m hoping we can get an advantage at home. However, there will undoubtedly be a lot of energy, and I can’t wait.
Before Dart came in for the second drive of the game with the backups, Russell Wilson started the first preseason game and only played one series with the starting offensive line. The remainder of the first half was then played by Dart, and Tommy DeVito and Jameis Winston cleaned up late.
In this second game against the Jets, it will be intriguing to see if head coach Brian Daboll offers Dart even more chances and responsibilities.
The Giants are likely to handle this game similarly to the opening, with the starters playing early, based on Daboll’s eagerness and bravado.
The act of tackling cannot be replaced. Cleaning the pocket cannot be replaced. Late this week, Daboll stated that there is no alternative for run after catch when you are going to be struck. Being live as a quarterback in the pocket is unmatched. However, we will ultimately determine what we believe is best for our team.
Could the Giants head coach substitute the rookie for Dart and keep the starting offensive line and skill players in place even if Wilson starts the game?
This is not a quarterback war, according to the Giants. They’re making every effort to steer clear of a discussion about it. However, unless anything unexpected happens, Dart will undoubtedly play early this season based on his recent play, draft status, and Wilson’s lackluster camp.
Winston’s low ranking on the depth chart and lack of practice reps further suggests that the Giants either don’t think highly of him or don’t intend to use him.
All eyes will be on Dart, the Ole Miss standout, as he prepares to prove himself to the home fans.
Regarding the fan base, Dart stated, “I think the energy is really high.” Everyone is quite motivated to win, and I believe that many individuals sense a specific vibe here. Naturally, I haven’t been here, so I can’t speak to how things have been in the past, but I get the impression that things are going pretty well.
He went on to say, “I know that we have a group of guys who really want this.” We also want to play and compete at the best level possible. We aspire to participate in and win the largest competitions. I believe that the fans hold everyone to that standard, and as a competitor, you want to be a part of it because, in the end, that will drive you in.
You want to win and perform for an enthusiastic audience.
