This is an Associated Press WNBA story:

AP’s Indianapolis A 55-year-old Texas man who admitted to authorities that he had an imaginary connection with WNBA player Caitlin Clark was found guilty of stalking and harassing the Indiana Fever guard and was given a 2 1/2-year jail sentence on Monday.

In an agreement with Marion County prosecutors, Michael Lewis of Denton, Texas, entered a guilty plea to one felony count of stalking and one misdemeanor count of harassment. Time served will be credited to him.

In addition, Lewis was told not to communicate with Clark and to avoid Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Hinkle Fieldhouse, Fever activities, and Indiana Pacers organization events. During his sentence, he will also be prohibited from using the internet.

Authorities claimed that between December 12, 2024, and January 11, 2025, Lewis made hundreds of threats and sexually explicit communications to Clark, leading to his arrest on January 12.

Lewis, who declared that the end of the world was imminent during Monday’s court proceedings, was also advised to get mental health care.

The IP addresses of Lewis’ messages were traced by the FBI to the Indianapolis Public Library and a hotel in downtown Indianapolis. According to court filings, when Indianapolis police conducted a welfare check on Lewis, he informed them that he was on vacation in Indianapolis and that he was having a fictitious relationship with Clark.

Following the first police visit, Clark continued to receive texts.

Due to injury, Clark, the first overall choice in the 2024 WNBA draft, has only played in 13 games this season and is presently out due to a strained right groin.
