Eric Rogers anticipated it.

The former Rutgers cornerback jumped the route, intercepted the ball, and raced it back 44 yards for his first NFL pick-six because he knew it was on his way before New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough delivered it.

“I’ve never seen a better play,” head coach Jim Harbaugh remarked. It’s the best play you could make.

Rogers was a key player in the Los Angeles Chargers’ 27–13 victory over the Saints in their second preseason game. Later in the game, he added five tackles, a crucial pass breakup, and a second interception to his pick-six.

According to Harbaugh, Rogers was being evaluated after he left the game due to an injury. Rogers, on crutches, gave his coach a fist bump in the locker room after the game.

According to Harbaugh, he was rolling. It was a momentous day for him. Amazing.

During the first full week of the NFL’s 2025 preseason, other former Rutgers standouts performed as follows (ProFootballFocus provided the snap counts and receiving statistics):

Bears’ Kyle Monangai

In a 24-all tie with the Miami Dolphins, the running back, who started his first NFL preseason game, amassed 30 rushing yards on six carries. The first kickoff was also returned by him.

Monangaisaid, it was a great experience to have under my belt. On the surface, my review and personal performance indicate that I need to improve on a few things. Well done for finishing the first one (at Soldier Field). I enjoy playing here. You simply must see the movie and take something away from it.

Head coach Ben Johnson continued, “I thought Kyle ran really hard when the ball was in his hands.”

Melton, Bo (Packers)

When the veteran wide receiver switched to cornerback during minicamp, he was compared to former Colorado standout Travis Hunter; however, it appears that he will only play one position going forward.

Melton played solely at cornerback against the Jets on Saturday, with the exception of two special teams possessions. He allowed 21 yards on two catches on two targets, made one tackle, and missed another.

With his new role, where does he rank in the hierarchy? He is as near to a 53-man roster lock as it gets, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, who said that he was on the bench in the third quarter of a preseason game wearing a ball cap with his pads off.

Max Melton of the Cardinals

The younger Melton brother’s performance against the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday was strikingly comparable to that of his older brother. Max Melton gave up two catches on two targets, made a tackle, and missed another, but he gave up zero yards overall on those two plays.

Chiefs’ Isiah Pacheco

The standout running back just played three snaps against the Arizona Cardinals and had one carry for eight yards. Andy Reid and his team are undoubtedly aware of what they have in the two-time Super Bowl champion.

Jackson, JaQuae (Chargers)

The wide receiver played 20 offensive snaps (and one special teams snap) against the Detroit Lions last week, but he did not dress for his team’s game against the Saints on Sunday. Although he did not register a reception, he was targeted once.

But for Jackson, who signed with Los Angeles this offseason after missing the 2024 season because of a knee injury he suffered in a preseason game with the New England Patriots last summer, it was a pleasant return to the field.

Izien Christian (Buccaneers)

During 17 snaps in a victory over the Tennessee Titans, the defensive back made two tackles and missed one.

The Titans’ Sebastian Joseph-Day

During his six snaps against the Bucs, the defensive tackle recorded a quarterback hit.

Saints’ Tyreem Powell

Against the Chargers, the linebacker participated on 13 special teams snaps and four defensive snaps. He didn’t note any statistics.

The Jaguars’ Christian Braswell

The defensive back played 31 defensive snaps and nine special teams snaps on Saturday. Braswell allowed a six-yard reception on two targets and made one tackle.

DePaola Andrew (Vikings)

During his seven snaps against the Houston Texans, the seasoned long snapper set up kicker Will Reichard for four successful attempts, including two extra points and two field goals.

The Patriots’ Tre Avery

The cornerback participated in two special teams plays and fourteen defensive snaps. The only time he was targeted, he made two tackles and allowed one reception for 14 yards.

The Patriots’ Isaiah Iton

Against the Washington Commanders, the defensive tackle participated in 28 defensive snaps and one special teams play. In his team’s 48-18 victory, he was given credit for one tackle.

Eagles player Hollin Pierce

Pierce made his NFL preseason debut with 16 snaps at right guard after starting 50 straight games at tackle for the Scarlet Knights. In Philadelphia, he is vying for a spot on the 53-man roster, and at worst, he appears destined for the practice squad. Following a session last week, Pierce was spotted working with Eagles great Jason Kelce.

Bengals Shaquan Loyal

Against the Eagles, the safety appeared in 19 total snaps, including two on special teams and 17 on defense. In addition to missing a tackle and being credited with allowing a 13-yard reception, he also collected one tackle.

Being outside felt fantastic, Loyaltold NJ Advance Media. It fulfilled a dream. I always wanted to play in the NFL, and I m here just taking advantage of it.

Blackshear Raheem (Panthers)

The do-it-all running back had one carry that went for zero yards, one four-yard catch, one 15-yard kick return and a two-yard punt return while playing 13 snaps.

Raiqwon O Neal (Buccaneers)

The offensive lineman started at left guard against the Tennessee Titans, playing 33 snaps on offense along with three special teams snaps.

Desmond Igbinosun (Ravens)

The safety played 17 total snaps 11 on defense, six on special teams in the Ravens preseason opener against Indianapolis. He made a tackle, but is also credited with giving up two catches for 13 yards.

Jude McAtamney (Giants)

The second-year placekicker had one field goal attempt on Saturday, but it was a crucial one: McAtamney nailed a go-ahead 42-yarder in the fourth quarter to lead his team to a win over the Buffalo Bills. He also hit an extra point attempt.

Dymere Miller (Jets)

The wide receiver did not record a stat in 14 offensive snaps and two special teams snaps against the Packers.

Michael Dwumfour (49ers)

The defensive tackle made one tackle in 24 snaps against the Denver Broncos.

Shawn Bowman (Jaguars)

The tight end played almost twice as many special teams snaps (14) as offensive snaps (8). He did not record a stat in his team s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Did not participate

Kyonte Hamilton (Texans)

The defensive lineman was placed on injury reserve this week afterfracturing an ankle during a training camp practice. He is expected to miss roughly four months of action.

Robert Longerbeam (Ravens)

The cornerback missed Baltimore s preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts due toa torn patella tendon that will force him to miss the entire 2025 season.

Michael Burton (Broncos)

The veteran fullback is one of eight Broncos who did not dress for their game against the 49ers on Saturday.

Jonah Jackson (Bears)

The offensive lineman did not play a snap on Sunday.
