‘Holy cow!’: CNN data guru shocked at support for Trump’s ‘big beautiful bill’

President

Donald Trump’s

“big beautiful bill” could have catastrophic consequences for Republicans in the midterm elections.

CNN data guru Harry Enten explained that support for Trump’s

“big beautiful bill”

is underwater as the Senate is slated to debate the legislation in coming days. The legislation, if passed, would extend Trump’s 2017 tax breaks with

large cuts to Medicaid.

He said that support for Trump’s “big beautiful bill” is 29 percentage points underwater, according to

a KFF poll

. The

Quinnipiac Poll

found similar results, with support for the legislation at a net minus 26 percentage points.

“I’m really, really surprised when I look at polling data. I look at it every day. But the amount of disapproval for this bill. Holy cow! My goodness gracious,” Enten said.

“And you know, you mentioned the KFF poll. We’re talking about 29 points underwater on the net favorable rating. But that matches the Quinnipiac University poll from last week when it was 26 points underwater. Oh my God. You need Greg Louganis to get that far underwater,” Enten added, referring to the

retired Olympic diver.

Big Beautiful Bill may lead to a Big Beautiful Election Night for Dems in 2026.

BBB is so underwater you need a Greg Louganis dive to get that far under. -29 pt & -26 pt net favorables in recent data.

2017 tax cuts polled better (-17 pt net fav) & Dems took the House in 2018.

Enten also explained that there is “a large chunk of the Republican Party that is not in favor of this bill.” About 23% of Republicans are opposed to the bill, according to Enten.

“All of a sudden you’re taking a huge chunk of that MAGA base out of that Republican base that is turned against this bill,” he added.

“It is not just Elon Musk. It is not just Ron Johnson, the Senate Republican from Wisconsin. It is a large chunk of the Republican base is large, double the percentage that have an unfavorable view of Donald Trump, have an unfavorable view of the big beautiful bill,” he added.

He also warned that the bill could tank Republicans’ chances in the midterms.

“So this is far more unpopular than those tax cuts were back in 2017,” Enten said.

“And remember Republicans lost the House in 2018. So if this is the big beautiful bill and maybe a big beautiful bill for Democrats if it passes, because it’ll have a big, beautiful night come midterm night of 2026,” he added.

As the party pushes ahead on Trump’ s priority package, Republicans insist they are not cutting the vital safety net program but simply rooting out what they call waste, fraud and abuse. Whether that argument lands with voters could go a long way toward determining whether Trump’s bill ultimately ends up boosting — or dragging down — Republicans as they campaign for reelection next year.

Republicans say that it’s wrong to call the reductions in health care coverage “cuts.” Instead, they’ve characterized the changes as rules that would purge people who are taking advantage of the system and protect it for the most vulnerable who need it most.
