Although Luis Severino, a right-hander, only joined the Athletics a few months ago, his time there might already be coming to an end before the end of July.
After spending eight seasons with the Yankees and one with the Mets, Severino spent his entire MLB career in New York. This offseason, he agreed to a three-year, $67 million deal with the A’s. Following remarks he made regarding their current home field in Sacramento, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale claimed on Sunday that the franchise is eager to deal the starter.
After his start against the Yankees on Sunday ended in a 12-5 loss, he stated, “I can’t do nothing about whether they get mad or not,” according to The Athletic. I simply state the truth.
Pitching at home in Sutter Health Park, a minor league stadium, feels like a spring training game, according to Severino on Friday. Additionally, he saw that the ballpark lacked air conditioning and had minimal spectators.
He remarked on Sunday, “I won’t lie to you if you ask me how I feel pitching at home.” Because you will ultimately determine whether or not it is a falsehood. I’m here to attempt to pitch, so please be truthful with me whenever you ask me a question. That’s what I actually did.
Severino’s contract with the A’s is the most guaranteed contract in the team’s history. It would pay him $23.33 million year, which is more than $2 million more than the qualifying offer he turned down from the Mets in November.
Severino has tossed 104 1/3 innings this season with 71 strikeouts, good for a 5.18 ERA.
