Brave lifeguard impaled by umbrella to be released from hospital. ‘She didn’t even whimper.’

According to her supervisor, a 19-year-old lifeguard who was hit by a beach umbrella in Asbury Park is scheduled to leave the hospital on Thursday and is looking forward to going back to work shortly.

Joe Bongiovanni, Asbury Park’s beach safety supervisor, said the woman, whose name was not disclosed, is from Robbinsville Township and is a college student in Wisconsin.

Around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the metal shaft of a beach umbrella pierced her upper body at the city’s Third Avenue Beach, causing significant injuries, according to Bongiovanni.

According to Bongiovanni, when the wind increased, the woman was on the second step of the lifeguard stand, putting up the six-foot-long umbrella.

According to Bongiovanni, she was putting the umbrella up and putting it in the hole when a burst of wind blew up before she could secure it.

The woman lost her balance and fell off the stand after being dragged backward when she reached for the umbrella. According to Bongiovanni, the umbrella fell on top of her, passed through her upper arm, and out from her upper back.

According to Bongiovanni, the shaft passed through the lat muscle on her left side after piercing adipose tissue beneath her left tricep.

No one observed if the woman was in agony, according to the beach supervisor.

You wouldn’t be aware of it. She did not whimper or take any action. As they cut off the umbrella to move her, she chatted and laughed with us, according to Bongiovanni.

According to Bongiovanni, when first responders inquired if the woman wanted to be carried away on a stretcher, she replied that she preferred to be sitting.

According to Bongiovanni, he loaded her onto his ATV and took her to an ambulance that was waiting.

According to Bongiovanni, the woman requested her backpack and telephone before they left.

After being brought to Jersey Shore Medical Center, she had surgery. Following surgery, the woman sent a picture of herself giving a thumbs-up to her coworkers via text.

He claimed that although she was still a little dazed from the anesthesia, she was in excellent spirits and only slightly in pain when I saw her yesterday night.

According to Bongiovanni, the woman is expected to be discharged from the hospital on Thursday and will soon resume her work as a lifeguard.

But according to Bongiovanni, physicians warned the woman that it might take up to two months for her to recuperate.
