Another Mets pitcher lands on IL, this time with mysterious illness

These days, New York Mets pitchers are losing like a game of whack-a-mole at a carnival.

The Mets announced that right-handed reliever Jos Butt was also going to the injured list with an undisclosed ailment less than twenty-four hours after adding two pitchers, Dedniel N. Ez (elbow) and Paul Blackburn (shoulder), to the list.To replace him, Chris Devenski was brought up from Triple-A Syracuse.

Mendoza stated, “We’re going to leave it at that,” after announcing that he was sick. To be respectful of Butt, we won’t get into the specifics. We don’t think this will last long; we think he’ll return immediately following the All-Star break.

Despite a difficult start to the season, Butt has performed well in his last 11 games. In 15 1/3 innings, he hasn’t given up a run, and in that time, batters are only hitting.122 off of him.

Butt has pitched 43 2/3 innings and given up 12 earned runs this season (2.47 ERA). He has now surpassed his previous season total of 30 appearances with 31.

Additional injury updates

There is some positive news coming, even though it appears that the Mets have been plagued by injuries lately.

In his Double-A rehab start on Saturday, right-hander Kodai Senga (hamstring) is expected to throw 60–65 pitches. Senga might be activated in time for the last series prior to the All-Star break if everything goes according to plan.

On Tuesday, left-hander Sean Manaea (elbow/oblique) will make another rehab appearance. Before the All-Star break, he might be activated for the last start against the Kansas City Royals.

On Saturday, Tylor Megill (elbow), another starter, will start his pitching development. He will be out of commission for two to three weeks.
