Going out on your own terms is preferable if all good things must end.
After being let go from Metallica, guitarist and singer Dave Mustaine created Megadeth in 1983. The band is formally ending its existence. In 2026, the band will go on one last tour and release one more record.
Vic Rattlehead, Mustaine’s alter persona and longstanding band mascot, made the revelation in a video that was posted to the band’s YouTube account. The 63-year-old Mustaine also issued a message reflecting somewhat on the band’s 42-year career.
According to the musician, many musicians have reached the end of their careers, whether on purpose or by mistake. The majority of them are unable to go out on their own terms, and that is where I am at the moment in my life. Saying farewell to my millions and millions of admirers is the most difficult part of my journey around the world.
Mustaine continued by saying that now is the ideal moment for the band to make an album. The release date for Megadeth’s 17th and last album, their first since 2022, is still pending. The musician ends by saluting everyone who has been a part of the band’s history.
“We’ve accomplished something together that’s really amazing and probably won’t happen again,” he says. We revolutionized the guitar world and how it is played, we created a revolution, we established a musical style, and we changed the world. The world has been impacted by the bands I was a part of. For that, I adore you all. I appreciate everything you’ve done.
