Recently, the first Garden State location of a well-known New York City-based company opened.
On Friday, Somedays Bakery, which is especially well-known for its handmade croissants, opened next to the former Bellevue Theater in Montclair.
The concept was initially introduced in the Astoria area of Queens in April 2024 by its founders, Peter Philips, Dion Vangelatos, Eddie Mamiye, and Arlander Brown. In January 2025, they launched a second site in Long Island City.

New Jersey natives Niko and Anastasia Porfyris are the franchise owners of the Montclair facility.
Philips, who is also the CEO of Chip City Cookies, a cookie firm, told NJ Advance Media that Montclair is a terrific market with families and a sense of community. Our goal is to replicate the sense of a community bakery that permeates many of Manhattan’s artisanal bakeries.
Philips added that the group intends to open additional bakeries throughout the state.
According to Philips, “I adore the state of New Jersey and we see (the state) as a tremendous growth opportunity.”
The main menu item of Somedays, a homemade bakery, is croissants and other pastries made using lamination dough. This week’s New York Times Best croissants list included their black sesame tahini croissant.
The bakery’s present hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday through Sunday, but they will soon be extended.
Despite being the first Somedays shop in New Jersey, it is situated in an area with a lot of bakeries. Mattarello Bakery & Cafe is next door, and Marcel Bakery and Kitchen and Little Daisy Bake Shop are just along Valley Road.
