Here is an AP piece about college football:
Las Vegas (AP) Even among college football bettors, the Manning name is well-known.
For the first time since Vince Young’s run into the Rose Bowl end zone to defeat Southern California twenty years ago, top-ranked Texas is the favorite to win the national championship.
Arch Manning, the quarterback for the Longhorns, is the first leader to win the Heisman Trophy, one of the few things his illustrious football family has not accomplished.
Manning finally gets his chance to live up to the hype after spending two seasons behind Quinn Ewers. A lot of gamblers are falling for it.
According to Johnny Avello, director of race and sports operations at DraftKings Sportsbook, “I think hype is a big part of it.” The team has improved to rank among the best in college football. Although the quarterback was ok, I wouldn’t describe him as an excellent quarterback based on the team’s performance the previous season. Now that Manning is there, he has access to the prior records of every Manning.
Highest ranked Despite a crowded field, Texas is the clear favorite to win it all. At BetMGM Sportsbook, the Longhorns are the +450 favorites, followed by Ohio State, the defending champion and third-ranked team (+525). Four more teams are in the 7–9 range: No. 2 Penn State, No. 4 Clemson, No. 5 Georgia, and No. 7 Oregon.
Additionally, Manning is the clear favorite to win the Heisman at a number of bookies, including BetMGM, where he has a massive 6-1 odds. Next at 9-1 each are Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik and LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.
Bruce Marshall, a handicapper for CBS SportsLine, stated, “I can see that storyline kind of evolving like that.” The plot revolves around Manning’s grandfather and his uncle losing the trophy. We haven’t seen much of him this season, but this is kind of a retribution for the Mannings. Should he be up there before Clemson’s Klubnik? He’s there, even if I wouldn’t think so.
Travis Hunter, a two-way player for Colorado, won the Heisman Trophy last season, which is uncommon. Twenty out of the last 24 times, the honor had gone to a quarterback.
Even if the quarterbacks are once again in the lead this season, Jeremiah Smith, a wide receiver for Ohio State, may be given a chance. He has a 10-1 chance of winning the title, according to BetMGM.
Marshall stated that he could see Smith winning the Heisman, and he has earned the second-highest number of bets at the sportsbook, after Manning.
An element of big play, Marshall remarked.
On Tuesday, Robinhood declared that it would start taking trades on professional and collegiate football games in collaboration with Kalshi, another online prediction market startup.
Although skeptics, including some at sportsbooks, wonder if it’s just sports betting masquerading as investment, prediction markets function similarly to the US stock exchange, where investors place their money. Kalshi is being sued by Maryland, Nevada, and New Jersey, who claim it is in violation of each state’s sports betting regulations. Similar claims have been made by Native American tribes in Wisconsin and California.
Kalshi and Robinhood argue that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission regulates their businesses.
The NCAA is not satisfied.
The NCAA places a high priority on sport integrity, and we are extremely concerned about unprotected and unregulated marketplaces that endanger student-athlete safety and competitive integrity. According to a statement from Tim Buckley, senior vice president of external affairs for the NCAA. We will keep an eye on market trends and collaborate with business executives to assist establish rules and guidelines that safeguard NCAA competition, student-athletes, coaches, and officials.
In the inaugural year of the 12-team playoffs, Ohio State demonstrated last season that a club did not have to be a top seed to win the championship. Despite starting as the eighth seed, the Buckeyes dominated the field.
The line at BetMGM is at -145 since bettors have noted that more bets are being placed on the under of 10 1/2 victories for Ohio State. +120 is the over.
The odds for Ohio State to qualify for the playoffs are -325.
According to Christian Cipollini, sports trading manager at BetMGM, they seemed to coast through the regular season before truly stepping up when it came time for the playoffs. With this expanded playoff, some of these teams are virtually certain to qualify. Alabama and Ohio State, two very prestigious universities, will have to work very hard to miss it.
Boise State became the first non-power conference team to qualify for the playoffs, and even without Heisman runner-up Ashton Jeanty, bettors think they will return.
DraftKings and Caesars Sportsbook have the No. 25 Broncos as their favorite to represent the Group of Five.
Joey Feazel, Caesars’ football head, described the program as really straightforward. There are tremendous hopes that they will perform well.
According to BetMGM, Boise State is a -160 favorite to win the Mountain West, followed by UNLV at +700. However, the Broncos have 250-1 chances to win the national championship, while the Rebels have 200-1 odds.
“I’m surprised,” Cipollini remarked.
According to Avello, DraftKings has money on No. 20 Indiana (+500) and No. 23 Texas Tech (+450) to win the championship.
If one qualifies for the postseason, people who are betting on them can either hope for a large payout or wager against them to ensure a profit, according to Avello.
According to Avello, the odds are higher and (bettors) view them as clubs that may be improving over the past few years.
