TAMPA Aaron Judge appears to be a home run batter at 6-7 and 282 pounds.
The same is true for Giancarlo Stanton, who weighs 245 pounds and is 6 feet 6 inches.
Jos Caballero, though?
The game of the 5-10, 190-pound utility player isn’t really about power. However, in Tuesday’s 13-3 victory over his old team, Caballero, who was acquired from the Rays on July 31, still tied Stanton and Cody Bellinger with two home runs. At George M. Steinbrenner Field, the Yankees set a franchise single-game record with nine longballs in the triumph.
The record was equaled in the ninth inning by Caballero’s second shot, a single homer off Mason Montgomery. After Judge and Stanton combined for three home runs on Tuesday, Caballero quipped that he had learned some power suggestions from them.
The little Caballero, who also blasted a short porch, two-run homer off Shane Baz in the second inning, remarked of his bulky colleagues, “It must be infectious to hang out with those guys.”

On Tuesday, Caballero hit two home runs to start the game, matching his season total. He then launched his first jacks as a Yankee, making his new squad the first team in big league history to have two nine-homer games in a single season. Not too long ago, on March 29, the second game of the season, the Yankees hit the Brewers with nine longballs, setting a franchise record.
According to Caballero, the Yankees led all of baseball in home runs with 204, which is why they are known as the Bronx Bombers.
But Caballero is more of a bothersome pinstriper.
After Tuesday’s game, which was his first multi-homer game of the season, the 28-year-old, who is currently in his third major league season, had just 17 career home runs in more than 1,000 plate appearances. He is more well-known for his versatility and speed; he leads the majors in stolen bases with 39.
Throughout his first 11 games with the Yankees, Caballero has already started at short, second, third, and right. Prior to Wednesday, he had a.364/.440/.682 slash line, adding an offensive spark in the process.
According to Aaron Boone, he is a very aggressive player. He brings only a few truly helpful things to the table and plays the game with a great deal of confidence. His skill at handling the bat, playing the game inside a game, and, of course, the running game. In addition to being an excellent defender at four or five different positions, he excels on the bases.
He is a successful player.
Bellinger expressed a similar opinion, referring to Caballero as a gamer and stating that he has made a significant contribution in his brief tenure with the Yankees.
Bellinger described him as a tremendously talented baseball player with a lot of enthusiasm. He’s extremely good at everything, actually. This team has benefited greatly from his presence.
Such admiration for Caballero would have been difficult to find in the Yankees’ clubhouse not too long ago because of his reputation for annoying opponents.
Among them is Gerrit Cole, who memorably threw a high, 0-2 fastball to Caballero while he was playing for the Seattle Mariners in June 2023 and waved his finger at the Mariners bench. In an attempt to disrupt Cole’s timing as he labored against the pitch clock, Caballero had been entering and exiting the batter’s box throughout the night.
Over the years, Caballero has also messed with opponents on the bases a lot because to his quick feet.
“He gives the opponent a little nudge, but we’ve laughed a lot,” Boone added. He has now become one of my favorite athletes.
On Tuesday night, Caballero played his first game against his former employer since being moved, and the Rays, who used to benefit from that needling, presented a tribute video for him. A few minutes later, he lofted his first homer of the night and torched them in an unusual way.
Playing against his former squad was unique, according to Caballero, who was taken aback but grateful for the video.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are now appreciative of Caballero’s support.
“He has been a driving force for us,” Boone stated.
