Phil Simmsis is back at NBC.
In 2025, the former Giants quarterback, who last called a game for the network in 1998, will make a comeback as a college football analyst.
Prior to NBC losing its ABC package programming rights to CBS, Simms served as the network’s chief NFL analyst in the early 1990s.
Prior to being transferred to the studio in 2017 and replaced by Tony Romo, Simms served as a lead analyst with Jim Nantz and Greg Gumbel. Following the 2023 season, his contract with CBS was not extended.
Simms will be on the call for the network’s college football season opening on Friday, August 29, when Illinois hosts Western Illinois, exclusively on Peacock, according to a press release from NBC.
Simms is scheduled to visit Rutgers on Saturday, September 6 on Peacock in Miami, Ohio, the following weekend. Additionally, Simms will be the game analyst for a third game this season; the specifics will be revealed later. Simms and Paul Burmeister, the play-by-play commentator, will call every game.
