Bill Belichick: I ‘didn’t want to ruin the relationship’ between Tom Brady and Antonio Brown

Words have never been Bill Belichick’s forte. However, Belichick seems to be loosening up a bit since leaving the NFL and after the media frenzy that surrounded the football legend and his 24-year-old sweetheart, Jordan Hudson.

The first-year UNC coach recalled managing the relationship between his Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback, with whom Belichick won six Super Bowls in New England, and controversial wide receiver Antonio Brown, who joined in 2019 while promoting his book, The Art of Winning, on The Pivot Podcast this summer:

After playing just one game, Brown—who inked a one-year, $10.5 million contract with the Patriots on September 7, 2019—was cut loose on September 20 due to claims of personal misconduct off the field.

More scandal, legal troubles, and a dramatic break from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers—where he last played—have subsequently marred Brown’s life. In 2021, he rejoined Brady for a second term.

Brown played for the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most of his twelve-year career. From 2014 to 2017, he was selected to the All-Pro squad four times in a row after receiving his first All-Pro selection in 2014.

In the meantime, after the coach-quarterback team helped each other win six Super Bowl titles, the names Brady and Belichick became synonymous.

Belichick was the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants before he became Brady’s coach, and he helped the team win Super Bowls in 1987 and 1991. In 2021, thirty years after the Patriots dynasty ended, Brady became the first of two players to win a Super Bowl for the Buccaneers.
