According to a relative and friend, one of the men slain in Sunday’s mass shooting at a Brooklyn lounge was a peacemaker attempting to break up a brawl in the packed club, but detectives have identified him as potentially one of the shooters.

According to buddy Rajawn Philips, Jamel Andre Childs, 35, was first attempting to defuse tensions inside Taste of the City Lounge on Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights, a role he frequently adopts when he witnesses a situation about to degenerate into violence.

Philips.49, who works at a marijuana store close to the club, claimed he was a cool man. You know how there are a lot of knuckleheads at clubs? Like, cool out. He’s the one on the side. He is among those who say, “Stop that idiot.”

Similar words were used by Child’s brother to characterize him.

He was attempting to break up a quarrel. Richard Childs Jr. remarked, “That sounds just like him.” Jamel’s goal was to rescue the world. His goal was to save everyone.

However, according to a police source, a preliminary inquiry reveals that Childs and a 19-year-old guy who was also slain in the firing were among the club’s shooters.

According to authorities, up to four gunmen were involved in the gang-related 3:30 a.m. shooting that also claimed the life of a 27-year-old male. Nine further individuals were shot and injured.

According to the source, one of the victims is thought to be a Folk Nation gang member.

According to Child’s brother, who spoke to The News, “I was not there and do not believe him to be one of the shooters.”

According to records, Childs was given a sentence of almost eight years in jail for a Brooklyn robbery conviction in 2018 but has been out on parole since 2023.

According to Philips, the violence began at the club as a two-on-two altercation between members of two larger groups.

He claimed that those individuals had been at odds with one another for some time.

They said that the children were the ones who broke up the argument when it started. They continued to have parties. Then, Philips said, it leaped off. I believe that two individuals ended up jumping off since they were still at odds.

Childs and his mother arrived to surprise his young niece at her graduation in June, just a few months prior.

According to Richand Childs, the family is in mourning. He is a wonderful friend and brother.
