Despite having directed Mean Girls (2004), Lindsay Lohan’s most memorable film to date, Freaky Friday director Mark Waters was not requested to work on the critically and commercially successful sequel.
The 61-year-old director of House of Yes told Variety that although he did raise [his] hand and express his desire to be involved in some way, he was not given an invitation to the celebration.
Waters stated that he would have been delighted to executive produce the sequel to his 2003 Disney box office success, even if he had not directed.
As the producer of 500 Days of Summer, who still views 39-year-old Lohan as a friend, explained, “I’m very supportive of them making a great new movie.” It would have been lovely to be engaged, but now that I’m not, I must focus my efforts on continuing to create original, hit works that will be remade in 20 years.
Many cast members asked him, “Where the hell are you, Waters?” according to Waters. I haven’t abandoned you! I apologize.
