ABC comedian Jimmy Kimmel made a suggestion that he would join the increasing number of comedians who are fleeing the Trump administration from the United States.
When the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! stopped by comedian Sarah Silverman’s podcast, he stated that he is qualified to become an Italian citizen and that his sentiments regarding Donald Trump’s second term as president do not preclude him from traveling overseas.
“What’s happening is just as bad as you anticipated,” he said to Silverman. It’s far worse. It’s simply unreal.
The Brooklyn native implied that Trump’s tenure in office might be going worse than even the President wants it to be after Silverman, who briefly dated Kimmel, concurred.
“Way worse,” Silverman added, echoing Kimmel’s assertion that the country has seen a difficult first half of 2025.
After Trump took office, comedian Ellen DeGeneres and actor Portia de Rossi moved to the UK. When the President regained power in January, comedian Rosie O’Donnell stated in April that she had moved to Ireland. According to Newsweek, performers Sophie Turner and Minnie Driver have decided to leave the United States because of political reasons. Last month, People magazine published a list of sixteen celebrities who chose to leave the Trump administration.
Although Kimmel resides and works in California, Trump has hinted that the comedian who often makes fun of the President on his late-night program would soon lose his job.
Trump wrote on Truth Social on July 22 : Jimmy Kimmel is NEXT to enter the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes and that [Jimmy] Fallon will be leaving soon after. :’s a powerful statement. These individuals, who have no talent whatsoever, were compensated millions of dollars for consistently ruining what was once GREAT television. I hope I had a significant influence on their departure, and it’s great to see them go!
For budgetary reasons, CBS declared last month that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert would conclude in May.
Since his reelection in November, Trump has used costly litigation to attack media organizations like ABC and CBS. The parent corporation of CBS reported that it settled a lawsuit against Trump in July for $16 million. In order to resolve its disagreement with the incoming Commander-in-Chief, ABC News announced in December that it would donate $15 million to Trump’s presidential library.
