E.J. Warner’s final season of collegiate football will see him start at quarterback.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the former Temple and Rice quarterback, the son of former Giants quarterback Kurt Warner, has been selected as Fresno State’s starting quarterback.
In a Week 0 game against Kansas on August 23, Werner will make his Bulldogs debut.
In his first season with Rice, Warner finished 4-8, throwing for 2,710 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions on 272-of-439 passing (62%) in 11 games.
Before transferring, he made 21 appearances in two seasons at Temple, where he began his career.
He threw for 3,076 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions on 57.5% passing (256-of-445 passing) in 12 starts during his strong sophomore campaign in Philadelphia. As a true freshman in 2022, he threw for 3,028 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions at a 60.5% rate (268-of-443), marking the second consecutive season in which he exceeded the 3,000 passing yard mark.
In both of his seasons at Temple, including his first start at Lincoln Financial Field last season, Warner began against Rutgers. In both games, which resulted in losses for the Owls, he completed 39 of 79 passes for 445 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions.
Kurt Warner coached a young Eli Manning during the 2004 season while he was with the Giants. Warner led the St. Louis Rams to victory in Super Bowl XXXIV and was named an NFL MVP twice.
As a high school prospect, E.J. Warner received 11 offers, according to 247Sports.com, but he only visited Temple and UConn.
