Amed Rosario was added to the 10-day disabled list by the Yankees on Sunday morning, further hurting their depth.
After colliding with the right field wall at Yankee Stadium on Friday night, Rosario, who was acquired from the Nationals before the trade deadline, is coping with a sprain to his left sternoclavicular joint. In the tenth inning of the Yankees’ 5-3 loss to the Astros, Rosario was trying to make a catch.
Rosario remarked, “I was just trying to make a play.” In an attempt to catch that ball, I started running really quickly. I miscalculated the distance there and then collided with the wall.

Rosario views himself as day-to-day despite the IL designation, which is effective retroactively to August 9. After at least ten days on the IL, he intends to return. Aaron Boone is likewise hopeful about the viability of that timeline.
Rosario, a versatile player with little defensive ability, is 3-for-7 with a double and an RBI in his first four games with the Yankees. He is striking. This season, he has hit 277 with a.747 OPS, five home runs, and 19 RBI.
Three of the Yankees’ trade deadline signings are currently off the active roster due to Rosario’s injury. Reliever Austin Slater is anticipated to miss four to six weeks due to a hamstring problem, while Jake Bird was optioned to Triple-A shortly after joining the Yankees.
The Yankees needed alternatives to left-handed pitching, so they signed right-handed hitters Rosario and Slater. For a team without any Triple-A outfielders on the 40-man roster at the moment, the two also offered outfield depth.
The only other position players on the Yankees 40-man roster are infielders Braden Shewmake and Jorbit Vivas, while lefty-swinger catcher JC Escarra has replaced Rosario on the active roster.
Boone claimed he considered starting the scorching Giancarlo Stanton in right field for the second consecutive game on Sunday as the Yankees attempt to defeat the Astros in a series and hold onto the third Wild Card berth in the American League. But in the end, he changed his mind.
After being restricted to DH chores due to lower-body problems since 2023, Saturday was Stanton’s first defensive appearance. However, Stanton has tried to regain his outfield options while Aaron Judge is now limited to DHing due to a right flexor strain.
Regarding how frequently he will utilize Stanton in the outfield, Boone stated, “I kind of want to be smart about it.”
Boone went on to say that Judge’s throwing program is progressing rather nicely. Boone did not want to reveal a target date just yet, but the manager stated that Judge is hopeful that he will return to the outfield sooner rather than later.
