According to U.S. District Attorney’s Office officials Thursday, a Pennsylvania man is suspected of setting up an explosive device at his former supervisor’s house in Delran last month, spraying nails and bolts approximately 100 feet onto other residences and an SUV.
Michael Patrick Takacs Jr., 43, of Warminster, Pennsylvania, was charged with two charges of criminal possession of an explosive device, unlawful transportation of explosive materials, and unlawful transportation of an explosive device across state lines with the purpose to frighten or destroy property.
According to police, surveillance footage showed an explosion beneath a car in Delran at 2:42 a.m. on July 26.
According to police, the first explosion left a 100-foot debris field behind and lodged bolts and nails in the side of an SUV and the exterior of a nearby house.
About two minutes before the explosion, Takacs was captured on camera holding a black object. According to officials, he had parked across the street and approached the scene of the subsequent explosion.
According to officials, the surveillance footage shows Takacs setting the device next to the car’s driver’s side door before returning to his car with nothing and driving away.
Authorities claimed that Takacs remotely detonated the device as he drove by the scene shortly after, right before a significant explosion took place.
According to information obtained from interviews conducted as part of the inquiry, the individual targeted by the explosion was a former supervisor at Takacs, where he worked until his termination in May, officials said.
According to officials, investigators revealed that Takacs had taken screen grabs of directions to the explosion site in early June and had ordered detonators that matched those recovered at the scene.
Takacs is being jailed until additional judicial proceedings after making an appearance in federal court in Camden on Thursday.
A request for response from a Takacs lawyer was not immediately answered.
