Four additional vehicles were engaged in a chain reaction incident on the New Jersey Turnpike Thursday morning that claimed the life of a pickup truck driver, according to investigators.
According to New Jersey State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron, the pickup truck, tractor-trailer, semi-trailer, van, and automobile were all moving south on the Turnpike close to milepost 68.2 in East Windsor just before 10:30 a.m.
According to Lebron, the semi-trailer collided with the side of the vehicle and the rear of the pickup truck. One of the tractor trailer’s rear wheels flew off and struck the van when the pickup truck crashed into the back of it.
He stated the pickup truck came to a complete stop and the driver was killed when it was completely enveloped in flames.
Late Thursday evening, the identity of the pickup truck driver was unknown.
According to Lebron, the drivers of the automobile and the van were just slightly hurt.
No other information was made public, and the collision was still being investigated Thursday evening.
