Authorities say they discovered pictures and recordings of infants and toddlers being sexually abused in the possession of a guy who has been charged with a federal crime.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office District of New Jersey stated in a statement on Wednesday that 39-year-old Jersey City resident Matthew Ozol is charged with one count of possessing child pornography. After making his initial court appearance on Wednesday, he is still in federal detention.
After an account that took part in a graphic group chat on a messaging app was linked to Ozol’s IP address, law enforcement began looking into him, according to federal authorities. According to federal authorities, the participants in the chat discussed sexually abusing young children and shared a video showing such abuse.
According to police, 26 photos and videos showing the sexual abuse of infants and toddlers were found when FBI officers raided Ozol’s Jersey City residence later.
Whether the other members of the group chat have been identified has not been disclosed by authorities.
