The Jets ran an offense that was reliant on passes for the previous two seasons.
However, the Jets are anticipated to rely largely on rushing the football, which excites their offensive lineman, especially with a new quarterback in Justin Fields and coaching staff.
The coaching staff has made it clear to us that we will run the ball, which is different from previous years. Alijah Vera-Tucker, right guard for the Jets, stated. We enjoy that as an offensive line. We certainly enjoy hearing that.
You will consistently run the ball and wear down the defense. You can get a few drop-backs in there for G-Dub [Garrett Wilson] and the other receivers to do their thing when the play-action [pass] opens up.
We must go out and execute because the run game is crucial to any offensive strategy.
Aaron Rodgers was crucial to the Jets’ ability to move the ball down the field during the previous campaign. Coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas were fired as a result of the team’s poor performance, which ended in a 5–12 final. After Darren Mougey and Aaron Glenn were appointed general manager and head coach, respectively, they eventually let go of Rodgers as well.
Last season, the Jets passed the ball 64.1% of the time, ranking fourth in the NFL. On the other hand, they finished second to bottom in terms of rushing yards (91.8) per game and last in terms of running attempts (363).
With Fields at quarterback and all the offensive line upgrades the Jets have made, those running stats ought to rise this season. Fields had previously ran for 2,509 yards and 19 touchdowns in four seasons with the Bears and Steelers.
Jets center Joe Tippmann stated, “I think we have a great O-Line, especially for the run game.” We have a group of strong, athletic men who will work hard on their blocks. We have the ability to move people when we do get into such combos.
I’m ecstatic. We are currently working on those next steps, but I am really looking forward to them as well as the entire run game that we are working on.
Three offensive linemen that the Jets selected in the draft are expected to start. Among them is Armand Membou, who was chosen seventh overall in the draft held in April of last year.

Training Camp Observations: Justin Fields, Jets offense struggles on Day 6
As a result of such investments, Fields’ dual-threat skills and the skillful running back combination of Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, and Isaiah Davis are key components of Jets offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand’s scheme.
Glenn has worked hard to make the Jets a more physically dominant squad during the offseason and now during training camp. Glenn used tackling drills throughout training camp, which is uncommon in today’s NFL workouts.
Glenn remarked, “I’m really impressed with the way they operate in terms of the offensive line.” They are big, robust individuals who fit our desired offensive and operational personality.
Of course, Membou was our first pick in the draft. Last year, we had Olu [Fashanu]. We have an excellent interior. Additionally, some of the men who fill in as backups are performing admirably for us.
I’m thrilled about that team. Given their youth and the fact that Olu didn’t begin the year, Membou just began, they still have plenty of time to work on their communication skills. I’m excited to watch those guys continue to improve.
Fields didn’t have a much better session on Monday, two days after he only completed two of ten passes. During the 11-on-11 exercises, he made 4 out of 16 passes.
Although he has been happy with Fields, Glenn has stated that the Jets’ passing has to be strengthened. Fields’ attempts to complete passes against cornerbacks Sauce Gardner and Brandon Stephens, who have both had outstanding training camps so far, don’t help either.
Next week, the Jets and Giants will practice together twice in preparation for their preseason match on August 16. In the NFL, Fields has never been the most accurate passer. However, whether or not it’s time to fear about the Jets’ passing game will depend more on those practices.
Tippmann, however, doesn’t appear to be worried about the passing attack.
“We always need to keep improving,” he remarked. However, we’re still in the early stages of camp and are working toward our final objective.
Even though we’re not there yet, we know that we must keep going. Coach [Glenn] is honest with us every time we enter the meeting room, and we are honest with ourselves. We are able to accept that, take it on the chin, and grow from it.
Mason Taylor, a rookie tight end with the Jets, missed Monday’s practice because of an ankle ailment. Due to a knee issue, backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor was also excluded from team drills.
Security Glenn stated that wide receiver Xavier Gipson and quarterback Kris Boyd will not play in the preseason opener against the Packers due to shoulder injuries. John Simpson, the left guard (back), will also be benched.
Glenn did not specify which Jets starters will be available for Saturday’s game against Green Bay.
