A veteran NFL quarterback speculates that there might be more to the Cleveland Browns’ decision to exclude quarterback Shedeur Sanders from part of Saturday’s training camp practice than just his claimed shoulder stiffness.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on X (previously Twitter) that Sanders was unable to participate in the entire team practice sessions due to shoulder pain.In his response to the post, NFL expert and former quarterback Kurt Benkert, who has played for the Atlanta Falcons, Green Bay Packers, and San Francisco 49ers, hinted that Sanders might be moving.
Benkert stated that this is what they do prior to a deal.
According to Cleveland Plain Dealer Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot, Sanders is anticipated to participate fully in practice on Monday, despite the fact that Benkert’s rumors have caused some people to take notice.
Due to a quarterback stalemate, the Browns are now selecting their starting quarterback for Week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Along with veterans Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and this year’s third-round pick Dillon Gabriel, Sanders, a former Colorado quarterback, is one of four quarterbacks vying for the starting position. The Browns took him in the fifth round of this year’s draft. Sanders was in charge of the third-team offense last week while Pickett was out due to a hamstring issue.
Rather than releasing or dismissing a player, it wouldn’t be shocking if the Browns finally traded one of their quarterbacks near the end of training camp in an effort to recover something of value. Instead of receiving few repetitions in 11-on-11 practice drills, Sanders will have multiple opportunities to demonstrate his skills during the preseason games, which will be his best chance to establish himself as a contender for the starting position.
