Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez’s criticism of Yankees ‘comes with the territory,’ Aaron Boone says

Yankees supporters pay attention when Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez talk.

They were key players in the team’s 2009 World Series victory and are still regarded as two of the most important figures in Yankee history.

That’s why Jeter and A-Rod’s scathing assessments of the current Yankees over the weekend caused a stir.

During the network’s coverage of the Speedway Classic in Bristol, Tennessee, on Saturday, Jeter, who is currently an MLB pundit on FOX, stated that they make far too many mistakes.

There are far too many errors, and you cannot afford to make that many against top teams. It just doesn t happen.

After Jazz Chisholm Jr. was doubled off of first base on a pop-up to the second baseman during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to the Miami Marlins, Jeter made his remark.

That error happened three days after Austin Wells, believing there were three outs in Wednesday’s 5-4 victory against the Tampa Bay Rays, departed second base after the second out of the ninth inning.

Where is the responsibility? During the same interview, Rodriguez, a FOX commentator as well, stated. We would all be sitting our asses on the bench if we made a mistake. I see mistake after mistake with no repercussions.

Manager Aaron Boone disagreed with Rodriguez’s assessment of a lack of accountability when he was questioned about the former Yankees’ comments prior to Sunday’s game in Miami.

According to MLB.com, Boone stated, “Look, we’re the Yankees.” If the criticism is centered on an error, it’s acceptable when we lose games. In the end, we have everything we need to form a strong team. Getting the most out of that is up to me and the rest of us.

Boone was observed accompanying the infielder into the tunnel following Chisholm’s error. In the dugout, the YES Network cameras also captured Boone engaging in a lively discussion with Travis Chapman, the first base coach.

In order to get the quick-thinking Chisholm off the bases and let Paul Goldschmidt reach first, Boone subsequently stated that Chisholm thought Marlins second baseman Xavier Edwards was going to let the pop-up fall and then take the force out at second. According to Chisholm, he wouldn’t have changed a thing.

The Marlins’ 7-3 victory on Sunday completed a three-game sweep in Miami. The Yankees were in third place in the American League East going into Monday, having dropped 27 of their previous 45 games.

We re focused every day on being the best we can be, Boone said before Sunday s game. We must do it that way. However, it comes with the territory when it doesn’t happen or we don’t have the record that I believe we should have or that other people definitely believe we should have.
