Dallas, TX — A terrifying four-car collision in the heart of the Bishop Arts District left seven people hospitalized and bystanders scrambling to rescue a baby trapped beneath a pile of wrecked vehicles.
The crash, which occurred Saturday night at the intersection of Tyler and Davis Streets in Dallas’ Oak Cliff neighborhood, caused such devastation that vehicles were stacked on top of each other, with one car teetering dangerously above the rest.
Cell phone footage captured by witness Jeremy Boss shows the chaotic aftermath, as a group of good Samaritans rushed to stabilize an overturned Toyota when they realized a young child was still inside.
“We were holding the car until help got there,” one witness said. “When the baby was pulled out and carried away by Dallas Fire Rescue, there was a collective sigh of relief.”
Among the seven victims hospitalized were Arlington couple Celestino Rubio and Valerie Alonso, who were headed to a nearby arcade when their Lexus was suddenly crushed. Despite severe injuries, Rubio managed to apply a tourniquet to his own arm while simultaneously assisting his wife, according to their family.
Rubio underwent his second surgery on Monday, while Alonso, who received stitches, remains by his side.
Dallas police say the crash was triggered by a driver who plowed into cars stopped at a red light. That driver remains in critical condition, and their identity has not yet been released.
As of Monday evening, updates on the conditions of the other four injured victims have not been provided.
Witness Jeremy Boss described the scene as something out of a nightmare:
“All I could see was what looked like a pile of metal, about as tall as the traffic lights… It’s a miracle everyone is still alive.”
The crash remains under investigation.
